06 / Cutting and grinding
A lifted edge is a trip hazard. Grinding it flat beats replacing the slab.
Concrete moves. Control joints decide where it cracks, and cutting them at the right depth and the right time is the difference between a neat line and a split across the middle of your slab.
Grinding is the other half. A lifted edge in a path is a trip hazard, and on a business frontage it's a liability. Grinding it flat costs a fraction of replacing the slab.
Both are quick jobs, and neither one needs to make a mess of your place.
What you get
Included as standard.
- Control joints cut to the correct depth and timed to the pour
- Trip hazard grinding on paths, driveways and entries
- Cutting for plumbing, drainage and service trenches
- Slab and driveway removal, with the rubble taken away
- Wet cutting with the slurry contained, not hosed into your garden
- Dust controlled at the blade, and the area cleaned before we leave
If a step in your path has lifted, grinding it back is usually a same day job and far cheaper than taking the slab out. Worth asking before anyone quotes you a replacement.

We do cutting and grinding across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast.

Questions
Straight answers.
If yours isn't here, ring and ask. We'd rather tell you now than have you find out later.
Can you grind out a trip hazard instead of replacing the slab?
Nearly always, if the lift came from a root or settlement and the slab itself is sound. If the concrete has broken up, grinding only buys a little time. We'll tell you which one you've got.
How much mess does cutting make?
Wet cutting makes slurry. We contain and remove it rather than washing it into your garden or the stormwater. Dry cutting makes dust, so we control that at the blade.
How soon after a pour do joints get cut?
Usually within the first day, and the exact timing moves with the weather. Cut too early and the edges ravel, too late and it has already cracked where it wanted to.
